Congratulations to all Solo and Ensemble participants!
Everyone did a great job representing St. John the Baptist at the district festival.
Now we will all start to focus on the spring concert music! Here is a sneak peak at one of our songs:
In addition to working on concert music, both the Lab and Studio bands will be studying rhythm. Music is very much a bridge between the arts and math, as musicians must be able to subdivide notes and measures instantly as they play. Understanding the division of beats within specific time signatures allows the musician to quickly identify patterns and play accurately with others. The video below takes it to the next level and describes rhythm as a cycle that can be plotted much like planets circling the sun. If you have a few spare minutes, check it out!
“My music is the spiritual expression of what I am – my faith, my knowledge, my being… When you begin to see the possibilities of music, you desire to do something really good for people, to help humanity free itself from its hang-ups.”— John Coltrane
